Celebrating 20 years of They’re Only Chasing Safety, Underoath made their way to Baltimore, MD for a sold-out show at Rams Head Live on September 28th. Static Dress and Francis Doom joined in support of the celebration of their album. 

Starting the night was Francis Doom. They started their set playing “I.” You could just see the crowd mesmerized as the raw vocals and synth echoed through the venue. They continued their set playing “Night Vision” and “I Caught A Light.” This was the band's second performance and they did not disappoint. 

Up next was Static Dress from England. The band took the stage with a burst of energy. Immediately, vocalist Olli Appleyard commanded the crowd to go into a frenzy. They kicked off their set playing “disposable care,”  which the crowd turned into a mosh pit. They continued their set by playing “sober exit(s)” and “crying” which showed the crazy melodies and distorted guitar sounds. The band finished their set leaving fans wanting more. 

The lights dimmed and a few orange lights appeared - it was time for Underoath to take the stage. As the crowd waited in anticipation, drummer Aaron Gillespie walked out first and sat on the couch they had on stage. He started singing the final track from They're Only Chasing Safety, “Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape.” You could hear the raw emotion from his voice fill the entire room as the crowd soaked everything in. Eventually, the band took the stage and continued by playing the first few songs from the album. As soon as the first note of “A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White” started, the crowd surfers began.

Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain took note and his ferocious energy did not disappoint. At one point during the song, he jumped over the barricade and into the crowd. The crowd's energy intensified with nonstop moshing. The band continued playing the entirety of the album containing fan favorites “Reinventing Your Exit,” “It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door,” and “I'm Content With Losing.” The band took a brief break and Spencer took a moment to tell the crowd that not only are they celebrating the album, but the legacy of their band. The band continued the night, playing songs the fans voted for. They dove right in playing their new single “Teeth.” The number of crowd surfers increased in numbers. Spencer took a moment to get to the edge of the stage, pointing the mic to the crowd to have them sing as loud as they could with him. Before they began “When The Sun Sleeps,” they paused for a moment and mentioned that this was the first time in 20 years they had played this song live, which got the crowd excited. They closed out their set with “Writing on the Walls.”
