Sleeping With Sirens | Richmond, VA

On Monday, September 30th, Sleeping with Sirens celebrated their album Let’s Cheers To This by playing the album at a sold-out show at The National in Richmond, VA. Holding Absence and Teenage Joans joined in support.

Kicking things off first was the Australian duo, Teenage Joans. They took no time to play “Sweet Things Rot.” The crowd loved the energy of the vocalist while jumping all over the stage and not missing a note on the guitar. They continued their set playing “Candy Apple,” when the vocalist gave a cheeky note about the song. They surprised the crowd by playing a cover of the Pierce the Veil song “Circles.” This got the crowd moving.

Up next was Holding Absence, and lead singer Lucas graced the stage by greeting the crowd with the biggest smile. They started their set with “Gravity” and “False Dawn.” The crowd took no time to move around. As the band continued with their set, Lucas never stopped moving around. Every time he jumped and kicked in the air, the crowd fed off the energy. They ended their set with fan favorites, “Afterlife” and “Wilt.” You could hear the entire room singing every word along with the band.

The lights dimmed low and Sleeping with Sirens ran out and kicked the show into hyperdrive playing “Tally It Up: Settle the Score.” As the band continued playing one nostalgia song after another, you could see the excitement amongst the members, they were excited by the energy they received from the crowd. They played “Postcards and Polaroids”, which got the crowd surfers going. Singer Kellin Quinn took a moment to have the light dimmed and asked the crowd to light up the room with their cellphones as they played “Fire.” The band decided to slow it down a bit in the middle of the set to play a fan-favorite cover, “Iris” by none other than the Goo Goo Dolls. They kicked things back up and played “Who Are You Now”. You could feel the raw emotions from Kellin as he sang the song. The band surprised everyone by playing a fan favorite “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn,” which threw the crowd into a frenzy. The energy from the crowd intensified and you could see bodies going over the barricade. They ended their set with “If You Can’t Hang,” which left everyone with beaming smiles of excitement as everyone left the venue.
