Royel Otis | Atlanta, GA

On September 30th, 2024, Australian indie-pop duo Royel Otis brought the Glory to Glory Tour to the United States, delivering 27 shows across numerous cities. For the sold-out Atlanta stop at The Eastern, Atlanta natives Improvement Movement opened the night.

Improvement Movement, an Atlanta-based acoustic rock band, opened for the sold-out crowd at The Eastern. Their sounds could be described as a combination of psychedelic rock alongside indie, funk, and soul; having everyone in the crowd feeling like they were taken back to the lo-fi early 70s.

Around 9:15 PM, Royel Otis took the stage, opening their set with “Heading For The Door,” the sixth track off their latest album PRATTS & PAIN. From the first note, Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic delivered dreamy riffs alongside beautiful, soft-spoken lyrics. Highlights of the night included songs “Fried Rice,” “Big Ciggie,” and fan-favorite “Oysters in My Pocket.”

During the Sophie Ellis-Bextor cover of “Murder on the Dance Floor,” the entire crowd erupted into a dance party, including those working the concert itself. It was truly incredible to see how the band truly held the attention of every single person in the room. Another unforgettable highlight of the night was their cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger.” As the song began, the crowd was silent, allowing the lyrics and tender melody to truly sink in.

Throughout the night, Royel Otis gripped the crowd's attention with every note played, having everyone enraptured by the beautiful, heartfelt lyrics and tunes. With plenty of dates left in the tour, it is truly not an experience to be missed.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I have always had a passion for live music photography. Since moving to Atlanta after high school to pursue college softball, it opened up a door into the live underground music scene. Since then, I have worked with a number of underground bands and have had opportunities to shoot festivals and bigger artists. I look forward to working with the amazing team that CHARMMusic Magazine has to offer, and can’t wait to share what I see through my lens.
