Lucas Horne Interview

Lucas Horne, is a talented artist known for his innovative sound and genre-defying music. His new single "Secret" is sure to become a catchy summer tune while offering an introspective journey into the scattered thoughts that individuals with ADHD often fight with.

We got to chat with Lucas Horne around this new release to talk about his artistic background, music collaborations and upcoming debut EP.

- Hey Lucas Horne! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

I’m an independent singer songwriter who recently moved to the LA area for Nashville Tn. I originally started out in church choirs and local youth bands. After some voice lessons, singing kinda took over and before I knew it I was going broke paying for studio sessions recording and making music.

 - What inspired you to create "Secret" and how did the collaboration with former Awolnation Kenny Carkeet come about?

“Secret” kinda started as a first time co-write between myself and Kenny which was organized by my Mixing engineer Neil Engle. Within the first 20 mins we both had shared how we have ADHD tendencies and it kinda all was downhill from there. The chorus line “where’s my head at?” Actually came about from a tattoo I got a few months prior as a reference to my ADHD tendencies

- Could you share a bit about the creative process behind "Secret" and how it evolved from its initial concept into the final version we hear today?

Honestly it started out as a bit more of a chill pop track, we both spit out a few ideas, then Kenny had the idea to make it a bit more pop rock and snowballed from there. Definitely pulled a lot of inspiration from Kenny’s experience working on a 5 Seconds of summer.

- "Secret" has been described as an ADHD anthem. How do you feel about this characterization and what significance does the song hold for you personally?

I love it, I think the fact that you can just get lost in the song and not have this feeling of “am I missing some big picture?” Is great. As someone whose brain hops from element to element, it definitely feeds that part of my brain

- Can you give us a sneak peek into your upcoming debut EP "17"? What can fans expect from this musical journey?

I would say most of the EP is mainly pop focused, but towards the end we got to add a bit more rock elements which I definitely was a fan of. The biggest tease I can give is that we definitely took mad inspiration from Jimmy Eat World.

- Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for your music career?

Honestly, just to keep doing what I’m doing, maybe a record deal comes along, a tour could be cool, also wouldn’t be mad if a pub deal came my way. But yeah just to make good music and have a fun time doing it.

I’m a music marketing manager during the day and Christmas movies addict at night I started my career in music with booking in 2018 (my biggest highlight being to work on Elton John’s Tour in France) and discovered the PR/marketing world during the pandemic. After years of working with artists from the USA, all over Europe and South Korea, I’m more passionate than ever about helping artists get their music out to the world. What's better than being able to write about your favorite artists on a daily basis?
